Steven Clark Buchanan was born in Dothan, Alabama to Rural Home Missionary Association missionaries, Dick and Mary Buchanan. The Buchanan's have served, planting or building up struggling churches in rural Alabama, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Maine and North Dakota. Steven was saved at age 7 in Jersey Mills, Pennsylvania, and baptized in Pine Creek, the mountain river that runs past the church there. In 1970 the Buchanan’s moved to Burnsville, North Carolina, which is where Steven calls home. As a teenager, he spent his summers at Bancroft Bible Camp near Kingsport, Tennessee, as a camper and later a Junior Counselor . He attended Bryan College in Dayton, TN where he met and married Rebecca Turner, a missionary kid from Ecuador. Moving to Maine in 1983, he joined the Army National Guard and enrolled in the University of Maine at Orono. While living in Maine and attending the university, he taught his first Sunday School class to the youth in his father's church in Charleston, Maine. His son, Benjamin was born in 1986, and his daughter, Elizabeth was born in 1988. In 1989, he enlisted in the Regular Army to serve his country. His younger son, Daniel was born in Louisiana in 1991, and his youngest daughter, Esther was born in Heidelberg, Germany in 1993. Since his enlistment, every assignment in the military has been an opportunity to minister for Christ. Steven has sung in church choirs and taught Sunday School and Bible studies in Maine, Louisiana, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee South Korea, Germany, Iraq and Afghanistan. He is a member and Deacon in good standing at Petsworth Baptist Church in Gloucester, Virginia. He is currently serving his country in Afghanistan. |
